ESSAY CONTEST
OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Theme: “A generation to follow the Light”
Verse: John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
The essay contest is open to all Pennsylvania traditional (parent directed, family funded) homeschooled students between the ages of 10 and 18. All entrants must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
The essay contest is open from 01/01/10 - 02/28/10.
There are two ways of entering the contest:
- Participants may enter online at www.chaponline.com by completing the registration form and uploading the essay.
- Participants may enter by mailing a completed registration form and two printed copies of the essay (that are not returnable) to the CHAP office at 231 N. Chestnut St., Palmyra, PA 17078, and they must be postmarked no earlier than 01/01/2010 and no later than 02/28/09.
Along with the registration form and essay, participants must include the $10 registration fee. CHAP is not responsible for any misdirected, inaccurate, incomplete, lost, late, delayed, undeliverable, damaged or illegible entries, and all such entries will be void.
Essays must:
- Be written in English.
- Be based on the theme verse.
- Be typewritten, double-spaced and no more than one thousand words in length.
- Be the participant’s original work, and any other source used for support of the essay must be cited. Any plagiarism and/or failure to properly identify non-original sources will result in disqualification.
The essay winners will be decided by judges appointed by CHAP, and all decisions of the judges are final.
The essay contest will be divided into two categories:
Group A is for children between the ages of 10 and 14. Group B is for children between the ages of 15 and 18.
Each category will have three winners:
- 1st - $250, Certificate, Admission to the 2010 CHAP Homeschool Convention
- 2nd - $100, Certificate, Admission to the 2010 CHAP Homeschool Convention
- 3rd - $50, Certificate, Admission to the 2010 CHAP Homeschool Convention
You must indicate that you are in compliance with the following statements when completing the entry form:
- I am currently a Pennsylvania traditionally homeschooled (parent directed, family funded) student between the ages of 10 and 18.
- I have read the rules for the CHAP Essay Contest. I understand them and agree to follow the rules.
- I guarantee that the essay is my own original work.
- I have attached a file of my essay along with payment of the $10 entrance fee.
- I give consent for my essay to be printed in any CHAP publication (CHAP magazine, CHAP Website…).
- I have permission from one of my parents/guardians to participate in the CHAP Essay Contest.
Winners will be notified by May 1, 2010. Awards will be presented at the 2010 CHAP Homeschool Convention. If the winner cannot attend the Convention, the award will be mailed to them.
